The new £300 million hospital brings together acute services previously provided in Falkirk and Stirling, in new state-of-the-art buildings and healthcare facilities. Constructed by Laing O’Rourke as part of a consortium led by Forth Health (a joint venture between John Laing and the John Laing Infrastructure Fund) and including Serco as the FM Provider, the new hospital has 860 in-patient and day spaces and is currently the largest NHS healthcare project in Scotland.
Linear Projects Ltd of Glasgow and Manchester, a Rockfon Active Installer, installed a total of 82,000m2of Rockfon MediCare ceilings, including 60,000m2 of standard 600x600mm and 1200x1200mm tiles with Rocklink 24mm grid in all general use areas, wards, offices and meeting rooms. In the corridors and circulation zones, MediCare Plus was used in a 2400x600mm plank format, with Rocklink MaxiSpan grid. Standard tiles with Rocklink 24mm Enhanced Corrosion Resistant (ECR) grid were chosen for the en-suites, showers and general wet areas, as well as kitchen areas.
“Rockfon proved to be an invaluable partner to Linear Projects on the Forth Valley Acute Hospital project”, explained Stephen Holmes, MD at Linear. “They were able to rationalise the tile specification and meet the needs of the Forth Valley Board and Laing O’Rourke without compromising on quality, value or service. Whether it was adapting their MediCare system to Radiology Suites or wet areas, Rockfon always offered the best solution to the client.”
Rockfon’s MediCare range is specifically designed to meet the needs of today’s modern hospitals and healthcare facilities. HTM 60 compliant in categories 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, it has recently been enhanced and now offers three levels of performance ( CleanSpace Essential , Plus and Air ) to meet the needs of various risk zones, including low risk areas such as administrative offices and waiting areas through to high risk zones such as operating theatres and intensive care wards.
As with all other Rockfon products, MediCare has no nutritional value providing no sustenance to harmful micro-organisms, including MRSA, thanks to its noncombustible stone wool core.
The new MediCare range also has a low particle emission resulting in a Clean Room classification of ISO Class 5. The standard MediCare tile can be easily cleaned with a vacuum or dry cloth, while MediCare Plus and Air can be effectively disinfected by steam cleaning.
The MediCare range is ideal for installation in every area within a hospital or other healthcare facility, with a choice of performance options to meet the most demanding environments.
